DMM Bitcoin security incident
Japanese cryptocurrency exchange DMM Bitcoin has reported a security incident in which 4,502.9 BTC (Bitcoin units) were stolen, an amount worth over $300 million.
Details of the incident
The attack occurred through unauthorized access to the exchange's wallet (digital wallet) at around 1:26 p.m. As a result of the incident, DMM Bitcoin immediately took measures to strengthen security:
- Opening of new accounts has been suspended
- All cryptocurrency withdrawals stopped
- New spot trading orders blocked for the time being
However, there may be delays with existing limit orders and withdrawals in Japanese yen.
