Cake Wallet improves functionality by integrating the Lightning Network
Cake Wallet has partnered with Breez to integrate the Lightning Network into its platform to increase Bitcoin's functionality and practicality for everyday transactions. This integration is done using Breez's open-source software development kit (SDK) and works with Blockstream's Greenlight Node service, making it easier to set up Lightning transactions in any app. This development enables faster and more cost-effective Bitcoin transactions while maintaining user privacy and security.
The vision of Breez and Cake Wallet
Roy Sheinfeld, CEO of Breez, and Vik Sharma, CEO of Cake Wallet, emphasize that the introduction of Lightning payments in Cake Wallet will make Bitcoin more accessible and user-friendly. Their goal is to further establish Bitcoin in the mainstream. The upgrade increases the functionality of Cake Wallet, which was recently improved with the introduction of Silent Payments - a feature that minimizes the traceability of payments. This development is in line with Breez's mission to provide a non-custodial service that ensures user privacy and security.
SDK features and planned release
The SDK supports a variety of activities such as seamless transactions, swaps - i.e. the exchange of cryptocurrencies - and a flexible open LSP (Lightning Service Provider) model for selecting and switching service providers. The public launch of Lightning integration in Cake Wallet is planned for July 2024 and is expected to significantly improve the user experience of Bitcoin transactions.
